Ledger Accounts
Use a Ledger device so the private key never leaves the chip. The extension prepares payloads; the device approves and signs.
Connect a Ledger device
From Add Account > Connect Ledger (or during onboarding):
- Plug in the Ledger over USB.
- Approve the browser HID/WebUSB prompt when the wallet asks.
- Open the Bittensor app on the device; the wallet polls until it sees the app.
- Pick one or more derivation rows to import.
- Each row shows index, address, and balance. Use Load More or jump to a specific index.
If the browser cannot use WebUSB/HID, the wallet shows a warning with a doc link.
Confirm each signature on the device
Ledger-backed sends and dApp signatures open a dedicated authorization window. The wallet attaches metadata so the device screen stays readable while you approve on hardware.
Work within Ledger constraints
- Ledger accounts use ed25519; default software accounts in the wallet use sr25519.
- The device must stay connected with the Bittensor app open for every signing step.
- Passkey unlock is wallet-level; it is not a per-account substitute for the Ledger.
Add Ledger during onboarding or later
First-time setup can use Load from Ledger to create the vault and import device accounts in one pass. After a wallet exists, Connect Ledger under Add Account appends more device accounts without resetting the vault.
